Welcome to Irwin County Hospital

Irwin County Hospital is located in Ocilla and Irwin County, Georgia, home of the Georgia Sweet Potato Festival and historic Jefferson Davis Park.  We are located in an area that is considered economically challenged, but we refer to it as home. Irwin County Hospital continually strives to improve the quality of patient care and to address in a sustainable manner significant health care industry and local demographic changes.

As of the 2010 United States Census, 9,538 people resided in Ocilla and Irwin County, with the racial makeup being 67.6 % Caucasian, 28% percent African American, and the remaining population is comprised of two or more races.  The median family income was $51,262, with males having a median income of $40,070 versus $23,786 for females.  The per capita income for the county was $16,561.  Approximately 14.9% of families and 25.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 34.1% of those under age 18 and 15.3% of those age 65 and over.

Despite our socioeconomic obstacles, in 2016, Georgia Trend magazine ranked Irwin County Hospital as one of the state’s top twenty-five small  hospitals.  The ranking was based on data produced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), which provides public information on more than 40 quality-related indicators, including patient experience, outcomes of care, process of care, and efficiency and value to the services rendered.

Irwin County Hospital is a 34-bed acute care facility offering a comprehensive range of medical services to Irwin and the surrounding counties.  The hospital promotes healthier and happier lives by emphasizing core values such as integrity, commitment, quality, teamwork, and a patient-centered perspective.  Irwin County Hospital is a non-profit corporation governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, and is served by a 66 member staff, including 8 active staff members, 30 consulting staff, and 15 courtesy (i.e., limited patient admittance and procedures) staff.
